It's almost back to school time again.

It's not the beginning of August and that means we are about a month away from the start of the school year for my 3rd grader Haley, and My Preschooler Lillian.

I try my best to put off getting ready as long as possible but don't like to be last minute either. So I took advantage of a great deal at my favorite children's clothing store, and got 90% of my 3rd graders shopping done, since we don;t have uniforms, just a not to strict dress code.
So I ordered her
4 T-shirts
3- Long sleeved Shirts
1- Hoodie
2- pairs of jeans

She still has a ton of clothes left from last year what are still in great shape and still fit.  One thing that seems to grow every year through is the list of supplies you need to provide for the school year per child. I am so thankful we got the list at the end of last year this time... my 3rd grader will need
1- back pack no wheels
1- pair child size scissors
1- five subject notebook
3- single subject spiral notebooks
1- package wide ruled lined loose leaf paper
4 pocket folders with brads
Dry Erase markers
1-Highlighter
1- box #2 pencils
Manuel Pencil Sharpener
Markers Fat and Skinny
1 -Small box to keep supplies in
2 -boxes of tissues
erasers

To me this seems like a lot of stuff... I know that some of it is supplies for the classroom, that the school no longer provides because of budget cuts... but it does make me wonder what about the struggling families that can not provide this stuff . I think I spend $50 dollars last year on the 2nd grade list and that was less.

This year going back to school will be even more crazy because we are taking a trip 2 weeks after the start of school.

2 weeks before school I will be putting my kids on the school schedule...  which for them means
in bed by no later then 8:30 Pm
Up by 7 am
no more naps for the older one, and going over math, spelling, doing even more reading and becoming way more structured during the day. Because I run a daycare and have kids of all ages from 1- 8 here during the day it's hard to try a schooling program in the summer so we just kind of wing our days which include outside play, and some structure.

in our school district school goes from 8:45 am to 3:45 pm this year and grades K-4 follow this schedule, Preschool is only 3 hours Monday - Thursday for 4 year olds
and 3 hours 2 days a week for 3 year olds .

What I still need to get to be ready for back to school...
Gym schools for Haley
Clothes for Lily
Shoes for both girls

How do you get ready for school?

I start shopping for school quite early - comparing deals that are at various stores.

I'm following you back :)
Seems like the older they get the bigger the school list gets. It's crazy all the stuff they have to have!

That IS a lot of stuff! My oldest is just starting Kindegarden this year and I'm already overwhelmed! :)

My little one is too young for school, so I have yet to experience the "back to school" preparation madness :P But I agree, that does seem like a lot of stuff for a 3rd grader!
